UVIWE KIDS CODING PROGRAMME
01. The Challenge
Uviwe approached us to deliver a second round of their Siyaphambili Kids Coding Programme after a successful pilot phase. The goal was clear: provide accessible, age-appropriate coding skills to children aged 9 to 12, many of whom had never interacted with digital tools beyond mobile devices.
The challenge lay in ensuring that the training was not only technically sound but engaging and empowering — especially in a community where consistent digital exposure, infrastructure, and confidence in tech subjects are limited. There was also a strong need to ensure continuity and deeper outcomes from the foundations laid in Round 1.
02. The Solution
We designed and delivered our structured, child-friendly coding programme tailored to the developmental needs of 9–12-year-olds. The curriculum blended visual coding tools with introductory HTML/CSS, while incorporating creativity, play, and storytelling.
Building on the trust and energy from Round 1, we retained proven teaching methods and introduced new challenges. Kids were supported through guided lessons, team-based activities, and hands-on projects, culminating in real outcomes they could showcase — like building their own websites or landing pages.
We also introduced a participation and leadership incentive to drive confidence and consistency — with a sponsored prize from NanoTek for the most committed participant.
03. The Result
30 training sessions successfully delivered
20 learners consistently participated throughout the programme
10 kids built their own websites or landing pages using HTML and beginner-friendly tools
1 standout participant received a brand new smartphone, sponsored by NanoTek, in recognition of their growth, creativity, and commitment
Programme momentum has led to the launch of Round 2, deepening the coding journey for returning and new learners
